Captain's Message
As we are preparing for another great season of the NMGA, I am reminded how great our community is to be able to retire in and get to play golf with great people right in our own backyard! We all know there are plenty of higher quality golf courses we can play, but to have 2 great courses in our community at a reasonable price to play, is certainly hard to beat!
As for the NMGA activity, the executive has met to wrap up the 2024 season and the schedule and plans for 2025 are now posted. The schedule has been approved by Jamie and all our special events have a date. You will notice that the Annual Briar/Captain's Cup event has been reduced to 2 weeks versus 3 as in the past. Since we already have a Better Ball dedicated event we are going to remove that from the Cup event and go with the Alternate Shot format on week 1 and finish with the Singles format on week 2 along with our social after the singles matches are done. We hope this will allow more people to consider playing and reduce the need for spares.
As always we will continue looking for more opportunities to help support local charities such as the Alliston Food Bank, Matthews House, My Sisters Place and The Out of the Cold program as much as we can, as giving back is a large part of the NMGA.
Jamie and his staff did an excellent job in improving the course conditions over the 2024 season and have committed to continue those upgrades over the 2025 season. They are working on drainage issues, sandtraps, tee boxes and looking at putting cart paths on The Valley course so they can keep the course open when heavy rains hit which at times forces the course to close due to wet conditions.
We are working with Jamie and the Resort Mgt. on having a place where we can socialize after Men's Day golf. There are a couple of options being discussed and hope to have something to share on this before the 2025 season begins!
If you have any questions or concerns please pass them on to our Executive Team. We are not perfect and are willing to listen to any suggestions that will help improve our league, or anything around it.
Stay well and hit em straight!! Looking forward to the Spring!!
